Week 7 in Hospitalet

Hola a todo!!!

Things here have been crazy this last week! We had that day of San Yordi this last Monday and then we had our preparation day on Tuesday. We went to a really neat church called Tibidabo at the top of one of the only hills around right in Barcelona. We decided to hike up instead of taking the tram to the top (everyone decided that because it didn´t look that far and we had to pay). But it turned out to be like a real hike and I was in total heaven! Everyone else was a little ticked because there were like 5 or 6 false peaks before we actually got there. It was the most enjoyable day for me since I have been here...with the exception of the baptisms we have had. I love hiking and miss nature so much! It gets a little draining being in the smack dab middle of the city all the time. There are seriously hardly even any trees in our area and no such thing as a park. But the people are fantastic and that is what is important.

I got to go back to Madrid on Friday to pick up my residency card and we had a great time with all of us that were in the MTC in Madrid together and got to spend a good deal of time in Madrid. We went back to the MTC and had lunch with the President and his wife and then went into Madrid for a couple hours. We didn´t get to do a session in the temple though...we didn´t quite have time for that and they need advance notice for us to come. 

Then this past Saturday was the second baptism that I have been priveleged to be a part of since I got here. Anderson got baptized on Saturday and was confirmed on Sunday. He is seriously such an example to me of faith...it is ridiculous. The only person that came to support him at his baptism was his brother José and we kind of had to twist his arm to get him there. He showed up just as it was starting and we were so grateful that at least someone came to support him. His mom ´´couldn´t´´ go because she hadn´t gone to get her hair done yet. I was a little bothered by it...but Anderson is going to be blessed for his showing his faith without much behind him. No one from his family came to his confirmation on Sunday. His brother´s didn´t want to come because they were sleeping and his mom still hadn´t gone to get her hair done. He is seriously incredible. I don´t know if I would be able to do all that he has done without the support of family and at such a young age as 14. Seriously incredible. 

The ward was incredibly supportive of him though and welcomed him with open arms. We just need to find him some friends his age that will break him out of his shy shell. He is going to receive the priesthood next week as well. We are seeing so many miracles and I am so excited for the work!

Keep his family in your prayers so that they can open their hearts to the Gospel as well.

Week 6 in Hospitalet

Hello everyone!

What a fantastic week it has been! I love serving a mission! Thank you for your prayers for Moises. He is really coming along and his testimony is getting stronger and stronger. I love to see when people start to put the puzzle pieces together of how true this Gospel is and when the Spirit testifies to them that it is true.

One of our other investigators, I may have mentioned him...I don´t remember, but his name is Anderson and he is 14. He is getting baptized this Saturday on the 28th of May! We are really excited for him and hope that he can be the example that his family needs in order to receive the blessings of the Gospel as well. He lives with his mother, brother, and his aunt and he has another aunt that is a member of the church as well back where he is from. He has such an amazing spirit and really understands the things of the Gospel. He is quite timid and we really need to find some members that will be his friend and break him out of his shell a little bit. We are definitely praying for the members to open their hearts to him. So if you get a chance...pray for the members around the world, that they can realize their powerful influence in the missionary work and how much we really need their help in every aspect.

Well, yesterday was San Yordi....It is a holiday where guys give girls flowers and girls give guys books. An interesting holiday but the mission decided to give away 1000 Book of Mormon´s. I don´t know yet if it was accomplished, but in my companionship we gave away 40 in about 45 minutes and were able to contact a lot of people that really want to learn more. My district gave away a total of 300 I believe. I think some really great things will come out of the efforts of the missionaries yesterday...because we literally talked to everyone that walked by us and were able to teach many people about why we have the Book of Mormon and why we need it and testified that it is true. I love this work and I love to see how it changes people´s lives.

Week 5 in Hospitalet

Hello friends and family!!!

Things here is Spain are just doing great! We are having transfers today...but I am not moving gratefully and neither is my companion! I am so excited. Finally I will be somewhere besides the MTC for more than 4  weeks. Things here are great. We had Dafne´s baptism this last weekend as well as Bryan. Dafne is 9 and Bryan is 8 and is the grandson of a less-active lady. They are all doing well and were confirmed in church on Sunday as well. Bryan gave the most beautiful testimony in sacrament meeting as well. I just love kids and the absolute perfect faith that they have. It is really something that I need to try and have.

Okay....so you all want to know what a typical day here is like for me...so here it goes...

We wake up at 7:30 and go running. Come back and shower and eat breakfast. We start our personal study at 9 and have companionship study at 10, for 2 hours until I get finished with this 12 week training program that they started recently. It is fantastic. Then we got out at 12 for our visits or for contacting people. At 2 we come back to the apartment for lunch and language study. Then we go back out at 4 and have appointments and family home evenings with families, and contact more people and find more investigators until 10. No dinner break. We get home at 10 and plan and get ready for bed and go to bed at 11:30. That is a pretty typical day for us. But then there are Sundays which are different and days that we have district meeting and days that we have weekly planning and those are only slightly different.

So guess what??? Our apartment is finally clean!!!! Woohooo!!!!! We got a phonecall last week saying that we were going to have an apartment check and so everyone had to kick in and help me get the whole place deep cleaned!!! It was absolutely fantastic! The spirit was seriously immediately stronger when we finished cleaning! I love it and hope that we can all work together to keep it that way.

Well....I do have one request for you all right now...we have an incredible investigator that is having a really hard time right now. His name is Moíses. He was really learning and progressing really rapidly...but last night he tried to tell us that he didn´t want us to teach him anymore because he is really scared. He says that each time he has investigated a church in the past and tried to come closer to God, something bad has happened to him or someone close to him. And he just found out the other day that his friend has cancer. So he got really scared and said he just doesn´t want to mess with it. We had a really good lesson with him last night and left him with a prayer that really strengthened him. But if you could pray for him and for us that we might know through the spirit how to help him, we would really appreciate it. He is fantastic and really knows that it is true...he just is scared and has lots of questions.

Well...that is all I really have time for right now....except I should mention that transfers were today...but I am not leaving and neither is my companion at least not for the next 6 weeks. I love this area and love this ward. The people here are amazing!
